Despite the emergence of new programming languages, Azul’s recent research found that an overwhelming 98% of businesses continue to use Java in their software applications or infrastructure. In fact 57% of those organisations indicate that Java is the backbone of a majority (60%+) of their applications.
Factor in the considerable number of Java-based frameworks, libraries, and JVM-based languages and it is clear Java continues to play an instrumental role in the modern enterprise.
Azul also found that 98% of the companies surveyed for said report use Java today, with 57% of respondents saying that at least 60% of their applications are Java-based.
Another 83% said that at least 40% of their apps are Java-based and 90% say it is at least 80%. In short, Java is alive and well!
Azul found that nearly two-thirds (66%) of companies pay for Java support, illustrating how this programming language continues to be held in high regard in the enterprise world.
Azul encourages customers to pay for Java support for the following reasons:
• Be confident that all your security patches, bug fixes, and enhancements are current and available.
• Receive security-only patches that are only provided by Oracle and Azul.
• Get proactive notifications of out-of-cycle bug fixes with root cause analysis for symptomatic issues.
• Have support for older Java versions like 6 and 7.
• Get protection from additional licensing requirements and General Public License contamination.
Azul believes that Java is key to unlocking business potential now and in the future. It is also passionate about engaging with the Java community to offer insights, innovation, and solutions that bring new relevance to Java in a connected world. It offers developers MORE with Java—more capabilities, more performance, more security, more value.
